The Traffic Culture Index is a basic data set used to assess the level of traffic culture. It is compiled annually by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, which surveys 229 cities, counties, and districts across the country on driving behavior, pedestrian behavior, local government efforts, and the number of traffic accident casualties.
By category, the city received 49.78 points for driving behavior, 18.86 points for pedestrian behavior, and 21.53 points for traffic safety, totaling 90.17 points. This placed Pyeongtaek first in the metropolitan area and second nationwide among cities and counties with a population of over 300,000.
Jeong Jangseon, mayor of Pyeongtaek, stated, "The improvement in the Traffic Culture Index is the result of mature civic awareness and the city's ongoing efforts," adding, "We will work to build a sustainable traffic safety city so that this achievement does not remain a temporary result."
