Pohang City Selected as Final Recipient in 'No-Code Manufacturing Technology Innovation Ecosystem Project' Competition

245 Billion KRW to Be Invested by 2029 for Digital Transformation (DX) of Manufacturing Processes
Support for Manufacturing Technology Enables Even Non-Experts to Easily Utilize Software Systems

Pohang City has been selected as the final recipient in the 'No-Code Manufacturing Technology Innovation Ecosystem Construction Project' competition hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy.

Through this project, the city will begin full-scale support for the digital transformation (DX) of local small and medium-sized manufacturing companies.

The total project budget is 24.5 billion KRW (15 billion KRW from the national government and 9.5 billion KRW from local funds), which will be invested over five years from 2025 to 2029. The plan is to bring about tangible changes in local manufacturing sites that lack digital capabilities.

'No-Code' technology enables software development through drag-and-drop methods using templates and graphic functions, even without coding knowledge. It is gaining attention recently because it allows local manufacturing companies, which often lack specialized personnel, to easily adopt IT solutions.

Due to the concentration of the IT industry in the Seoul metropolitan area, a shortage of developers, and rising development costs, local manufacturing companies have faced difficulties. However, the adoption of No-Code technology enables rapid and flexible improvement of software systems, leading to a surge in demand for digital transformation.

Pohang City has continuously requested the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to establish a No-Code testbed and to quickly introduce the technology. As a result of challenging for this competition, the city has achieved the outcome of being selected as the final recipient.

This project will be led by Pohang University of Science and Technology, with participation from the Pohang Materials Industry Promotion Agency (POMIA) and the Gyeongbuk ICT Convergence Industry Promotion Association.

An open innovation testbed will be established within the Pohang Materials Industry Promotion Agency, providing process equipment with high on-site usability and a foundation for demonstrating No-Code technology.

Through this, pilot processes will be operated to verify not only the feasibility of on-site application but also the stability and effectiveness of the technology.

By introducing customized No-Code solutions to manufacturing sites where new product development and technological changes are frequent, improvements in process efficiency, cost reduction, and productivity enhancement are expected.

The city plans to establish a comprehensive support system that goes beyond short-term assistance, including the operation of a technology support center, tailored consulting for companies, and the creation of a collaborative community (NC-Hub).

Mayor Kangdeok Lee stated, "We have laid the foundation for local manufacturing companies to pursue digital transformation on their own," and added, "Based on No-Code technology, we will realize sustainable digital innovation in manufacturing and further enhance the competitiveness of local industries."

Last year, Pohang City declared the 'AI Leading City Pohang Vision' and announced the 'Gyeongbuk Pohang AI Strategy.' The city is making all-out efforts to attract the government's 'National AI Computing Center' project.
