"Promoting Residents' Rights and Protecting Property Rights"
Jinan County in North Jeolla Province is offering the "Find Ancestors' Land" civil service throughout the year to promote residents' rights and protect their property rights.
According to the county on April 24, the Find Ancestors' Land service is a free administrative service that allows individuals to check the status of land ownership registered under their own or their ancestors' names nationwide by searching cadastral and forest registers.
When applying in person, applicants must bring identification if applying for themselves, or a family relationship certificate and a basic certificate to prove inheritance relationships if applying for a deceased person. For those who passed away before 2008, a removal from the family register must also be attached. Applications by proxy are also possible with the relevant documents and a power of attorney.
Additionally, for parents, spouses, or children who passed away on or after January 1, 2008, applicants can conveniently use the online Find Ancestors' Land service, which has been available since November 2022, to apply via the internet (Government24 or the K-Geo platform) without visiting the local government office in person. However, for those who died before 2008, applicants must visit the nearest city, county, or district office with a certified copy of the removal from the family register and related documents to apply.
A county official stated, "Last year, we provided land ownership information for a total of 832 parcels (approximately 859,000 square meters), and so far this year, we have provided information for 395 parcels (about 451,000 square meters), showing that the Find Ancestors' Land service is receiving a strong response." The official added, "We will continue to strive to enhance convenience for civil petitioners by providing prompt services."
