On April 24, Chosun University announced that it will host the '2025 Rose Week' at the Chosun University Rose Garden from May 8 to 11 next month.
The Chosun University Rose Garden is a renowned attraction in Gwangju, drawing countless visitors every May. Roses of various colors help people forget their weary daily lives, spread happiness, and are widely cherished. This year's Rose Week is expected to make the campus even more vibrant and colorful.
This year’s event, held under the theme 'Rise with Rose (Chosun University, Rising with Roses)', signifies that Chosun University is preparing for a new leap forward with the local community through the beauty and passion embodied by roses. Just as the fragrance of roses spreads beyond the campus into the region, Chosun University plans to blossom in education, research, and regional cooperation as it moves toward the future.
The Chosun University Rose Garden covers approximately 8,000 square meters and features 231 varieties and about 19,000 rose bushes from around the world, including Princess de Monaco, Jardin de France, Rusticana, and Inca. The garden was established in May 2001 by alumni of the College of Medicine, who created it out of affection for their alma mater and younger students.
Each rose in the garden carries the noble intentions of the approximately 72,000 founding members who established Chosun University in 1946, as well as gratitude toward the local community that has supported the university’s growth as a prestigious private institution in the Honam region.
Rose Week will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with vibrant roses on display during the day and a romantic atmosphere created by lighting, music, and fragrance at night. The passionate red roses, elegant pinks, and lively yellows together create a spectacular natural scene that fills the campus.
This year’s event is expected to go beyond simple flower viewing to offer a unique cultural experience. There will be promotional and experience booths operated by various organizations both on and off campus, photo zones, social media certification events, a spinning wheel game, and a 'Rose Cafe of Memories' program for sharing stories and song requests. Visitors can also enjoy exhibitions in collaboration with the Chosun University Museum.
There will be experience booths, rest areas, and food zones for families and students, making it an interactive festival that all generations can enjoy together. In addition, a fundraising project called 'Rising Rose Garden' will be held to support improvements to the rose garden environment.
This project aims not only to ensure the ongoing care of the rose garden but also to make Rose Week an even richer and more diverse event. Citizens can participate directly in the development of the rose garden through this project. Chosun University plans to keep the rose garden open for free public viewing even after Rose Week concludes.
