Jimin, RM, Stray Kids, and ATEEZ Nominated
for Favorite K-Pop Artist at the American Music Awards
Ros? of the group BLACKPINK has been nominated in two categories at the American music awards show, the American Music Awards.
According to the official website of the American Music Awards on April 23 (local time), Ros? was nominated for "Collaboration of the Year" and "Favorite K-Pop Artist" for the song "APT.," a collaboration with singer Bruno Mars.
"APT.," released by Ros? in October last year, is a fast-tempo track featuring the repeated phrase "apateu apateu." The collaboration with pop star Bruno Mars drew significant attention, and the song entered the US Billboard Hot 100 main singles chart for 26 consecutive weeks. This is the longest record for a female K-pop artist.
The American Music Awards is an awards ceremony that selects the most influential and iconic artists of the year. Along with the Billboard Music Awards and the Grammy Music Awards, it is considered one of the three major music awards in the United States. This is the first time a K-pop artist has been nominated in more than one category at this awards show.
The nominees for this ceremony are selected based on factors such as music streaming, album sales, single sales, radio airplay, tour revenue, and fandom size. In 2021, the group BTS became the first K-pop act to win "Artist of the Year," the top honor at the ceremony. The following year, the "Favorite K-Pop Artist" category was newly established in recognition of K-pop’s growing influence.
This year, in addition to Ros?, BTS members Jimin and RM, as well as the groups Stray Kids and ATEEZ, were nominated in the "Favorite K-Pop Artist" category.
The American Music Awards will be held in Las Vegas, United States, on May 26.
