The Incheon Airport Safety Management System Committee is the highest decision-making body for discussing aviation safety issues and countermeasures at Incheon Airport, with participation from the corporation, airlines, and ground handling companies. The committee has been held annually since 2006, marking its 20th session this year.
The meeting was attended by Kim Beomho, Vice President of the Corporation, as well as Chief Safety Officers and managers from 23 companies, including airlines and ground handling companies, totaling more than 60 participants. Taking into account the recent heightened public interest in the safe operation of aircraft, attendees shared safety issues related to overall airport operations and focused on discussing improvement measures and joint response strategies.
In addition, they agreed to proactively identify aviation safety risk factors in response to the increasing trend in air travel demand and to strengthen inter-agency safety cooperation systems, thereby establishing a more effective safety management framework.
Specifically, the committee evaluated last year's safety performance in various sectors of Incheon Airport (airport operations, navigation facilities, and air traffic), and established this year's safety policy objectives for Incheon Airport in connection with the government's aviation safety program. They also discussed company-specific action items and improvement plans for achieving these objectives.
The corporation plans to implement the safety action items discussed at the committee in a timely manner and to take the lead in spreading a safety culture within the airport, aiming to establish a world-class airport safety system.
Lee Hakjae, President of the Corporation, stated, "With the high level of public interest in aviation safety and the large number of passengers using Incheon Airport, we will make safety the top priority in airport operations and strengthen cooperation with related organizations to provide even safer airport services to the public."
