Samsung SDI Selected as 'Excellent Partner' by Jaguar Land Rover: "Top-Level Technology"

Samsung SDI has been recognized for its technological capabilities and has been selected as an 'Excellent Global Partner' by Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), a global premium automobile manufacturer.

On April 24, Samsung SDI announced that it had received the 'JLRQ Award (JLR Quality Award)' recently selected by JLR, recognizing the company as an excellent partner for its product technology and quality. The award ceremony, held the previous day at Samsung SDI's Tianjin branch in China, was attended in person by key executives from both companies, including Park Jungjun, Head of Quality at Samsung SDI (Executive Vice President), Cho Han-jae, Head of Strategic Marketing for the Small Battery Division at Samsung SDI (Executive Vice President), Nick Wells, Head of Procurement for JLR China and Asia-Pacific region (Executive Vice President), and Jaygum Xia, Head of Quality at JLR (Managing Director).

JLR produces luxury brands such as Jaguar and the sport utility vehicle (SUV) brand Land Rover. The 'JLRQ Award', established in 2010, is a type of 'certification' that JLR presents annually to outstanding partner companies that have contributed to the development of both companies by supplying high-quality products on time. JLR evaluates all its global partners using various assessment criteria, including quality level and delivery punctuality.

Since the start of its strategic partnership with JLR in 2018, Samsung SDI has been supplying 21700 cylindrical batteries (21mm in diameter, 70mm in height) for premium models such as the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. JLR has further strengthened its partnership with Samsung SDI by equipping the All-New Range Rover and All-New Range Rover Sport, launched last year, with Samsung SDI batteries.

The 21700 cylindrical batteries supplied by Samsung SDI to JLR are optimized for fast charging and long lifespan. They feature high-nickel, cobalt, and manganese (NCA) cathodes and Samsung SDI's proprietary silicon anode material technology, enabling rapid charging and maintaining a long lifespan even after repeated charging cycles.
