Culture Ministry Holds Forum on "Art in the Age of Artificial Intelligence"

On April 24, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that it would hold the eighth and final session of the "3 PM Art Policy Talk" at Art Korea Lab in Jongno-gu, Seoul, gathering on-site opinions under the theme of "Art in the Age of Artificial Intelligence (AI)."


Together with experts from various fields, the ministry plans to hold in-depth discussions on changes in the art creation ecosystem driven by the rapid advancement of AI technology, trends in AI art both domestically and internationally, and the roles of art and artists in the AI era.

Culture Ministry Holds Forum on "Art in the Age of Artificial Intelligence"

First, Dr. Kim Yoonkyung of the Korea Culture and Tourism Institute will address current issues in the art world, such as changes in the art ecosystem brought about by the AI era, debates over the subject of creation, and questions of originality in artworks. Next, Professor Kim Sunghee of Kaywon University of Art and Design will present on how other countries are approaching AI art from a policy perspective. Professor Lee Seungmoo of Korea National University of Arts will introduce the Art and Technology (A&T) Lab's initiatives related to AI art and discuss the direction of art education.


After the keynote presentations, artists from the performing and visual arts fields will discuss how AI is changing creative activities and what policies are needed in the field.


Yong Hosung, the First Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "Art has always found new directions and possibilities by questioning various issues," and added, "In this era of rapid technological advancement and change, it is time to have in-depth discussions about the roles of art and artists." He also said, "We will continue to create opportunities like this forum so that on-site artists and experts can discuss the direction our art should take."


The "3 PM Art Policy Talk" is a forum organized by the ministry to introduce its art policies in depth by theme and to gather on-site opinions from the art community.
