On the 23rd, Jeollanam-do signed a "Offshore Wind Workforce Training MOU" with National Mokpo University and Haesong Offshore Wind Power at Hotel Hyundai by Lahan Mokpo in Yeongam.
The signing ceremony was attended by Park Changhwan, Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of Jeollanam-do, Song Hacheol, President of National Mokpo University, and Jonathan Spink, CEO of COP Korea.
Haesong Offshore Wind Power, which signed the agreement, is the Shinan offshore wind project corporation of CIP (Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners), a Danish renewable energy specialist company known for its advanced offshore wind industry. The company is currently carrying out a large-scale offshore wind project in the Shinan area. COP (Copenhagen Offshore Partners) Korea is the domestic offshore wind project developer for CIP.
Under the MOU, each organization plans to cooperate on providing corporate internship programs for training offshore wind industry professionals, jointly developing and promoting specialized education programs, and co-hosting and sponsoring a global capstone design competition.
Jeollanam-do has received approval for 18.7 GW out of the national 31.9 GW permitted capacity for offshore wind power projects. This accounts for 61% of the total permitted capacity nationwide. In the future, as offshore wind power projects are developed in Mokpo, Shinan, Yeonggwang, Wando, and Haenam in Jeollanam-do, there will be a need to secure about 800 professionals per 1 GW for development, installation, and operational management. This agreement is expected to serve as a practical starting point for fostering outstanding talent optimized for the offshore wind industry.
Following the signing ceremony, the Haesong Offshore Wind Power supply chain business briefing was held, with key figures from Jeollanam-do, the Embassy of Denmark in Korea, the Korea Wind Energy Industry Association, and about 87 offshore wind-related companies such as Dohwa Engineering and Soiltech participating. Presentations were given on topics including the introduction of Haesong Offshore Wind Power's technology and supply chain cooperation.
