Over 400 Parents Attend, Enthusiastic Response to Practical and Entertaining Lecture
"My child doesn't keep promises about time and just wants to play games."
"What are the differences between things a child can decide and things parents should decide?"
On April 22, Dongdaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Pilhyung) invited Professor Cho Sunmi, a renowned authority in parenting and a psychiatrist at Ajou University Hospital, to deliver a special lecture titled "Changing Children, Evolving Parents." Despite inclement weather, more than 400 parents attended, filling the auditorium.
Professor Cho explained that "for children, smartphones are like air and friends are like water," describing the reality of children who live in a digital environment completely different from that of their parents' generation. She also presented communication strategies for parents adapted to this new era.
The two-hour lecture was filled with relatable and humorous real-life examples. Attendees responded enthusiastically, saying, "The lecture was practical, entertaining, and detailed, and it will be a great help in raising children."
Lee Pilhyung, Mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, stated, "I hope this special lecture has become an opportunity for parents to grow alongside their children as they develop," and added, "We will continue to expand various parent education programs to make Dongdaemun-gu an educational city that is a great place to raise children."
Meanwhile, in February, Kang Hyoungwon, the first Korean journalist to win the Pulitzer Prize twice, gave a lecture on "Korean Cultural Heritage in the World." In September, Professor Jung Jaeseung from KAIST, a specialist in brain and cognitive science, will deliver a lecture titled "Reflecting on Humanity through Brain Science in the Age of Artificial Intelligence."
In addition, the district plans to invite prominent figures from various fields to provide residents with opportunities to learn a wide range of professional knowledge and life wisdom.
