Former football player Kang Jiyong (36) passed away on April 22, 2025.


The cause of Kang Jiyong's death has not been disclosed. The funeral is being held at the funeral hall of Soonchunhyang University Cheonan Hospital. His wife and daughter are listed as chief mourners.


Football player Koo Bonsang, known to be a close friend of the deceased, announced the news of his passing through social media (SNS).


Kang Jiyong, born in 1989, made his professional debut in 2009 by joining the K League's Pohang Steelers. He later played for Busan IPark, Bucheon FC, Gangwon FC, and Incheon United, before retiring from professional football in 2022.


In February 2025, Kang Jiyong appeared on JTBC's 'Divorce Reflection Camp,' where he shared that he was working at a chemical plant after his retirement. At the time, he revealed that he was experiencing marital conflict due to financial issues related to his family of origin.


JTBC has made all four episodes (episodes 27 to 30) featuring the couple unavailable on VOD. The production team of 'Divorce Reflection Camp' expressed, "We extend our deepest condolences and sympathy to the deceased and the bereaved family."


The funeral procession will take place at 6:30 a.m. on April 25, 2025. The burial site is Cheonan Memorial Park.
