33 Billion KRW in Additional Funding Secured for Drainage Improvement Project
The Jeonbuk Regional Headquarters of the Korea Rural Community Corporation (headed by Kim Dongin) is drawing attention for its proactive measures to prevent recurring flood damage during the rainy season.
According to the Jeonbuk Headquarters on April 23, it has secured an additional 3.3 billion KRW in funding for drainage improvement projects from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, focusing mainly on removing aquatic plants and dredging sediment from drainage channels. This achievement means that Jeonbuk has secured about one-third of the total nationwide budget of 10 billion KRW.
The newly secured funds will be allocated to a total of 14 districts, with intensive maintenance planned for flood-prone areas before the onset of the monsoon season. In particular, with regions such as Iksan and Wanju having been declared special disaster zones last year due to heavy rainfall, the corporation's swift response reflects a determined effort to prevent recurring disasters in advance.
This achievement goes beyond simply attracting funding. The Jeonbuk Regional Headquarters conducted thorough on-site inspections, established plans focusing on vulnerable flood areas, and actively petitioned both the Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province and the central government. As a result, the urgency and effectiveness of the project were recognized.
Kim Dongin, head of the headquarters, stated, "Securing this budget is not just a numerical achievement, but the result of a sense of duty to protect the lives and property of rural residents in the province. We will continue to strengthen our flood response system to meet the challenges of the climate crisis era."
Based on this funding, the Jeonbuk Regional Headquarters plans to complete dredging in all project districts by the end of June, before the rainy season, and achieve tangible disaster prevention effects.
