The Hantangang Columnar Joint Trail consists of a total of 14 courses: 5 in Yeoncheon County, 7 in Pocheon City, and 2 in Cheorwon County. The trail is loved by many tourists, as it offers the opportunity to walk while enjoying the breathtaking views of the river and columnar joints.

This event will involve posting guide ribbons along the trail to indicate the walking direction for tourists using the Hantangang Columnar Joint Trail. Geosite interpreters of the Hantangang UNESCO Global Geopark will participate, ensuring that the event is carried out in a way that does not harm the natural environment or interfere with visitors' walking experience.

The Hantangang Columnar Joint Trail features major geological attractions of the Hantangang UNESCO Global Geopark, including Jaein Waterfall, Auraji Pillow Lava, Baeguirichung Formation, Jeongokri Prehistoric Site, Bidulginang Waterfall, and Goseokjeong. As such, it is also used as a venue for geological education.

Meanwhile, the Hantangang UNESCO Global Geopark was first designated by UNESCO in 2020 and successfully achieved revalidation in 2024. As the first geopark in Korea centered around a river, it is highly regarded for its geological value.
