Pocheon City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Baek Younghyeon) announced on April 23 that, starting May 1, the number of buses operating on Route 21 will increase from two to three.
Route 21 is a major bus line that passes through transportation-vulnerable areas of Pocheon City, including Igok-ri, Jikdong-ri, and Murim-ri. Since 2023, the number of buses and service frequency on this route had been reduced, causing significant inconvenience to residents in their daily lives.
To address these inconveniences, the city held ongoing discussions with Gyeonggi Transportation and made various efforts, including budget support, ultimately confirming the increase in the number of buses for this route.
With the number of operating buses increased from two to three, the interval between buses during commuting and school hours will be shortened, and residents’ mobility is expected to improve significantly.
Baek Younghyeon, Mayor of Pocheon City, stated, "Transportation is a basic right of citizens. Increasing the number of buses on Route 21 is one of our efforts to guarantee citizens’ right to mobility," adding, "We will continue to expand support for areas underserved by public transportation to ensure citizens’ practical right to mobility."
Meanwhile, Pocheon City plans to continue gathering residents’ opinions, provide customized transportation services, and actively support transportation-vulnerable groups and balanced regional development in the future.
