First Major Sports Event Secured Since City Status
Mayor Lee Kwonjae: "An Opportunity to Elevate the City's Value"
Osan City in Gyeonggi Province has been confirmed as the host city for the 2027-2028 Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival.
On April 23, Gyeonggi Province announced that Osan City has been selected as the venue for the 2027 Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival and Gyeonggi-do Para Sports Festival, as well as the 2028 Gyeonggi-do Sports for All Festival and Gyeonggi-do Para Sports for All Festival.

Osan City was the sole applicant to host these events. The province conducted a comprehensive evaluation, including on-site inspections of sports facilities and assessments of transportation, culture, and accommodation. Following this process, the Gyeonggi-do Sports Promotion Council unanimously decided to select Osan City as the host.
The Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival is the largest sporting event in the province, encompassing both athletes with and without disabilities. This is the first time in 38 years since Osan City was promoted to city status that it has secured the right to host the Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival.
With this successful bid, the city will sequentially host the 2027 Gyeonggi-do Sports Festival and Gyeonggi-do Para Sports Festival, as well as the 2028 Gyeonggi-do Sports for All Festival and Gyeonggi-do Para Sports for All Festival. The city expects that more than 40,000 athletes and spectators will visit during the event periods.
Lee Kwonjae, mayor of Osan, stated, "Hosting these festivals is an opportunity to further elevate the value of Osan as we move toward a population of 500,000," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure the events are successful and safe."
