Damyang County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Jeong Cheolwon) announced on April 23 that it is recruiting participants for the 4th Mudeungsan Geomarathon, which is being held to support the revalidation of the UNESCO Global Geopark designation.

This year's event will take place on October 11, starting at Hwasun Kumho Resort, and features a course designed to allow participants to experience both the natural beauty and historical significance of the Mudeungsan area.

Registration will be open from April 28 to May 27, and a total of 1,450 participants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. There are five categories: 30km, half course (21.0975km), 10km, 5.18km, and a 2km walking course. In particular, a special 5.18km course will be operated to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the 5·18 Democratization Movement.

The course is a loop that starts at Kumho Hwasun Resort, passes through Inam Samgeori in Gasamunhak-myeon, Damyang County, and Da-gok Samgeori in Baekamyeon, Hwasun County, before returning to the starting point. Participants will have the unique experience of running through the core landscapes of the Mudeungsan UNESCO Global Geopark and connecting with nature.

Prizes will be awarded based on ranking in each category, with all prize money provided in Damyang Love Gift Certificates, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy. Registration is available through the official marathon website, and further inquiries can be made to Maraton Sesang.

A county official stated, "The Geomarathon is an opportunity to widely promote the value of the Mudeungsan area and to create a healthy festival in harmony with nature," adding, "We hope for strong interest and participation."
