Every Saturday Performances Until May 31
'Daejabo City' Pilot Project No. 1... Transforming Into a Cultural Hub
The 'Cheongchun Bit Pocha Square' in front of Gwangju Park, which was the first demonstration site of the 'Daejabo City' project that returned parking lots to citizens, is set to become a new hot spot for youth busking performances.
On April 23, Gwangju City announced that Cheongchun Bit Pocha Square in front of Gwangju Park will be transformed into the 'Youth Culture Nuri Center,' hosting a variety of cultural and artistic performances every Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., starting from April 26 through May 31.
The 'Youth Culture Nuri Center' will present busking performances every weekend, featuring genres such as acoustic, jazz, and a cappella, aiming to transform the square into a cultural hub where citizens can walk and gather.
The city plans to operate the 'Youth Culture Nuri Center' as the first demonstration project of the 'Daejabo (public transportation, bicycle, pedestrian-oriented) City,' with the goal of increasing climate and environmental benefits and verifying the dual effect of boosting the local economy, while also gaining public support from citizens.
During the first half of this year, the Youth Culture Nuri Center will feature 20 busking teams selected through an open call under the theme of 'Youth Busking,' presenting a wide range of genres including folk, acoustic, jazz, a cappella, and saxophone.
At the outdoor stage on the lawn near Heegyeongnu, adjacent to Cheongchun Bit Pocha Square, the urban traditional culture and arts performance 'Heegyeongnu: The Timeless Stage 2025' will be held every Saturday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. during the same period. Audiences can enjoy fusion performances such as traditional parade performances, traditional percussion, and Yeonhui Nori (traditional Korean folk play).
All performances are free of charge, and the busking shows will be broadcast live in real time on the media wall of the Gwangju Media Art Platform (G.MAP). For more information, visit the website of the Gwangju Cultural Foundation, which is organizing the event, or contact the Arts Nuri Team at the Gwangju Cultural Foundation.
Kim Seongbae, Director of Culture and Sports, stated, "Cheongchun Bit Pocha Square has become an open cultural space for citizens and is now part of their daily lives," adding, "We hope for active interest and participation from citizens in the operation of the Youth Culture Nuri Center, where youth and culture come together."
