Purchase Only What You Can Eat and Consume Quickly When Buying Lunch Boxes or Delivery Food
Choose Hygiene Grade Restaurants Near Event Venues
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety on April 23 urged the public to pay special attention to preventing food poisoning when consuming or providing food and beverages at local festivals and events, which are actively held during the spring and autumn outing seasons.
Typically, about 62% of annual food poisoning cases occur between April and September, when local festivals and events are most frequent. This month alone, there were approximately 90 suspected food poisoning cases at the Jeju King Cherry Blossom Festival and about 200 suspected cases at the Senior Health Grand Festival in South Chungcheong Province.
Accordingly, when purchasing or consuming lunch boxes at festival or event venues, it is recommended to use products from food manufacturing or processing businesses certified with HACCP. For delivery foods such as gimbap, it is better to divide large orders among several restaurants rather than placing a bulk order with a single establishment.
When using restaurants near event venues, it is advisable to choose those designated as hygiene grade businesses, which have been recognized for their excellent sanitary conditions. In addition, temporary food establishments operating at events should not sell food prepared outside the business premises.
Food ingredients should be ordered in appropriate quantities to ensure they are purchased and consumed on the day of sale, and must be stored hygienically by observing proper food storage temperatures.
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety stated, "When major local festivals and events are held, we plan to conduct pre-guidance and inspections of lunch box manufacturers, temporary food establishments, and restaurants near event venues in cooperation with local governments."
