Mokpo Maritime Police Holds Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Technology Committee Meeting

Proactive Measures to Minimize Damage During the Foggy Season
Reviewing the Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Cooperation System

The Mokpo Maritime Police Station (Chief Chae Sujun) announced on April 23 that it held a meeting of the "Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Technology Committee" in the small conference room at 2:00 p.m. on April 22 to prepare for maritime accidents during the foggy season.


The meeting was attended by 17 disaster relief cooperation agencies and organizations, including local governments, the Mokpo Meteorological Office, the Mokpo Fire Station, and the Korea Maritime Rescue Association. The committee was convened to proactively prevent maritime accidents caused by foggy conditions and to establish an organic cooperation system for rescue operations.

The Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Technology Committee operates in accordance with the "Act on Search and Rescue, etc. on Water," aiming to establish rapid and effective search and rescue strategies and to carry out appropriate search and rescue missions by utilizing private sector technology and expertise.


The meeting began with a weather outlook for the 2025 foggy season presented by the Mokpo Meteorological Office of the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration, followed by: ▲ an analysis of accident cases during the foggy season over the past five years ▲ confirmation of cooperation and support among disaster relief agencies and organizations ▲ discussion of improvement measures for the overall on-site rescue cooperation system ▲ collection of opinions from relevant agencies regarding preparation and response to maritime accidents.


A Mokpo Maritime Police official stated, "When a disaster occurs at sea, cooperation among disaster relief agencies is more important than anything else for a prompt and systematic response," adding, "Mokpo Maritime Police will continue to do its utmost to protect the lives and property of the public by building an organic system with relevant agencies."
