Suwon City Inspects Ground Subsidence at Eight Major Construction Sites... "No Abnormal Signs Detected"

Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province announced on April 23 that it had found no factors raising concerns about ground subsidence or other safety accidents after conducting ground-penetrating radar (GPR) surveys around large construction sites, including the Dongtan?Indeogwon double-track railway construction site, to prevent ground subsidence accidents.

Starting from April 2, Suwon City carried out special safety inspections by using GPR to survey the ground around eight major construction sites, including the Dongtan?Indeogwon double-track railway construction project (sections 6, 7, and 9).

During this inspection, Suwon City checked for ground subsidence and assessed the safety management status of facilities at large-scale underground development sites, such as subway construction sites.

The main inspection items included: ▲whether there were concerns about ground subsidence; ▲the stability of roads and underground spaces around excavation areas; and ▲whether underground facilities were affected.

As a result of the inspection, no signs of ground subsidence or structural abnormalities were detected, and it was confirmed that safety management plans were being properly implemented.

Suwon City plans to conduct additional special safety inspections during periods when ground weakening is a concern, such as during the rainy season, and will regularly carry out GPR surveys in areas at risk of ground subsidence.

A Suwon City official stated, "Because ground subsidence can occur at any time and anywhere, prevention is crucial," adding, "We will continue to do our best to create a safe underground environment through regular inspections and proactive measures."
