Gwanak District Participates in the 23rd World Korean Business Convention in Atlanta, United States, for Four Days Starting April 17
Signs MOU with the Korean American Chamber of Commerce of Washington State and Discusses Cooperation for Entry into the U.S. Market
Gwanak District (District Mayor Park Junhee) achieved a remarkable accomplishment by securing export contracts worth approximately $100,000 at the 23rd World Korean Business Convention, which was held in Atlanta, United States, for four days starting from April 17.
The World Korean Business Convention is a major global economic event designed to support the overseas expansion of domestic small and medium-sized enterprises and to strengthen networking with overseas Korean businesspeople. This year, 350 companies and 16 local governments from across the country participated, operating 400 booths. More than 3,000 Korean businesspeople from 50 countries attended, making it a large-scale event.
In order to fully support the overseas market entry of local small and medium-sized enterprises and small business owners, the district participated in the World Korean Business Convention for the first time this year. In particular, Aran Story, a local lifestyle hanbok company, represented Gwanak District at the event.
Since 2023, Aran Story has been exporting lifestyle hanbok to Belgium and Paris, France. At this event, the company showcased lifestyle hanbok incorporating elements of Korea's cultural heritage and achieved a significant milestone by signing export contracts worth approximately $100,000.
Given the enthusiastic response from visitors and overseas companies to Aran Story at the convention, the district expects this to be an opportunity to continuously export Korean lifestyle hanbok and promote Korean culture worldwide.
To actively promote products from local small and medium-sized enterprises in overseas markets and connect them with international buyers, the district launched a new project called the "Overseas Market Development Support Program." For this year's convention, the district recruited participating companies in January and provided support such as booth rental fees to the final selected companies.
Additionally, during the convention, Gwanak District and the Korean American Chamber of Commerce of Washington State (President Eun Jiyeon) signed an agreement to foster business and exchange relations. The two sides discussed various issues related to establishing economic cooperation and sharing economic information to facilitate entry into the U.S. market.
District Mayor Park Junhee stated, "As the domestic economic downturn continues and recent trade pressure from the United States intensifies, it is a crucial time to strengthen the competitiveness of our businesses. We will actively support the development of overseas markets by utilizing the Korean business network and continuously strengthen exchange and cooperation so that local small and medium-sized enterprises and small business owners can successfully establish themselves in overseas markets."
