In the digital era, as the environment where anyone can create and share content becomes more widespread, the importance of local media education and creative support is growing.

Gumi Visual Media Center Establishes Itself as a Playground for Aspiring Creators Galaxy Academy

In this context, the Gumi Visual Media Center has established itself as a hub for supporting citizens’ creativity and learning, playing a significant role in the development of media culture in the Gumi region.


◆ Gumi Visual Media Center welcomed 22,851 visitors last year

The Gumi Visual Media Center attracted a total of 22,851 visitors last year, solidifying its position as a local hub for media creation.


In particular, the proportion of visitors aged 0 to 10 reached 49%, highlighting the center as a focal point for nurturing future media talent. The center is growing into a space for all generations, supporting a variety of media activities for citizens, including video production, editing, and screening.


◆ 49% of visitors aged 0 to 10... A space encompassing all generations

According to an analysis of visitors to the Gumi Visual Media Center, those aged 0 to 10 accounted for 8,344 people (49%), representing the largest group, followed by those in their 40s with 3,755 people (22%), and those in their 30s with 3,401 people (20%).


Visitors aged 50 and above numbered 990 (6%), demonstrating that the center has established itself as a media culture space for all generations.


◆ Gyeongbuk’s first visual media center, equipped with diverse facilities and equipment

As the first visual media center in Gyeongbuk, the Gumi Visual Media Center is equipped with a variety of facilities and equipment, enabling citizens to handle everything from video production to screening and editing in one place.


The center owns a total of 212 pieces of equipment across 39 types, including digital cameras, camcorders, and tripods, which are lent to citizens to support video production.


The first floor houses a screening room equipped with 3D projection and a 7.1-channel surround audio system, a media lounge, and an equipment room. The second floor features a radio studio, a one-person studio, and editing rooms, all designed to support video production and education.


Additionally, the Dream Cube, which provides exhibition content, plays an important role in stimulating the cultural sensibilities of citizens.


◆ Expanding media education to bridge the digital divide

The Gumi Visual Media Center operates various media education programs to help citizens acquire video production and editing skills.


Last year, a total of 21 courses were offered, with 4,113 citizens participating. The programs included not only video shooting, production, and editing, but also digital drawing using tablet PCs, photography, and smartphone utilization courses, providing customized education.


In particular, the "Galaxy Academy," a collaboration with Samsung Electronics, received a great response by teaching the latest smartphone features and application usage. The courses were offered free of charge or at a low cost of up to 10,000 won, improving accessibility for citizens.


◆ Screening of diverse films and expanding cultural experiences

The center regularly screens a variety of films, including independent, art, and documentary genres, every Saturday at 2 p.m., providing citizens with a wide range of cinematic experiences.


Last year, the center held a total of 43 screenings, showing 119 films. It also hosted 11 special film screenings and 10 "commentary screenings" with film directors and actors, supporting in-depth film appreciation.


Kim Jangho, Mayor of Gumi, stated, "The Gumi Visual Media Center will broaden opportunities for citizens to learn media technology and create, becoming an important hub for developing Gumi into a creative and innovative cultural city."


Meanwhile, the Gumi Visual Media Center is strengthening the media-related capabilities of Gumi citizens through various programs and plans to continuously expand opportunities for creation and education in the future.
