About 150 Participants Including Junggok Social Welfare Center, Walkerhill Hotel, Environmental Groups, and Local Residents
Gwangjin District (District Mayor Kim Kyungho) held the "Walking with Gwangjin for the Love of Earth" event along the Jungnangcheon Stream on April 22, in celebration of Earth Day.
Earth Day is an environmental protection day established to raise awareness of the seriousness of environmental pollution, and this year marks its 55th anniversary. The district hosts commemorative events every year to promote green living and spread eco-friendly culture.
The event was attended by about 150 people, including representatives from three organizations?Junggok Social Welfare Center, Walkerhill Hotel, and Lotte Department Store Konkuk University Star City branch?as well as members of the Eco Leader Volunteer Group, the Gwangjin branch of the Environmental Correspondents Association, other volunteers, and local residents. Despite the rain, the event was conducted safely and in an orderly manner.
The event began with an environmental protection performance, symbolizing the transformation from a polluted Earth to a clean one, reaffirming a strong commitment to environmental protection. This was followed by a plogging activity along a 1.5-kilometer stretch between Gunja Bridge and Jangpyeong Bridge. Participants used tongs and bags to pick up litter scattered along the Jungnangcheon Stream.
Event booths were also set up, including hands-on promotional booths such as making cypress sachets, producing kitchen soap using coffee grounds, an environmental quiz zone, and a photo zone, actively promoting the practice of carbon neutrality.
Kim Kyungho, Mayor of Gwangjin District, stated, "We can only protect the Earth when our thoughts of cherishing and loving it lead to small actions in our daily lives. I hope this event served as a reminder of the importance of environmental protection," adding, "We will continue to work hand in hand with the local community to implement tailored environmental policies that promote the culture of practicing carbon neutrality."
