296 Coastal Accidents in the Past Three Years
Authorities Inspect Safety Measures in High-Risk Areas
On April 21, the Seohae Regional Coast Guard Headquarters (headed by Lee Myungjun), together with Jeonnam Province and Mokpo City, conducted inspections of facilities such as information boards and life-saving equipment at three coastal accident-prone areas (Bukhang, Dongmyeong Port, and Yudalyuwonji), as the spring outing season brings a concentration of coastal visitors.
According to the Seohae Regional Coast Guard Headquarters on April 22, there have been a total of 296 coastal accidents in the jurisdiction over the past three years, resulting in 69 casualties.

In particular, during the spring, there are many days with heavy fog along the coast, making it difficult to secure visibility at night. As a result, accidents such as vehicles falling into the sea occur frequently. To prevent these incidents, the authorities conducted intensive inspections to replace facilities with highly visible equipment.
Additionally, in ports where vehicle fall accidents have occurred, the authorities discussed the installation of facilities to prevent accidents, taking into consideration the safe berthing of fishing vessels. They also checked the condition of life-saving equipment and whether warning signs were installed in appropriate locations.
An official from the Seohae Regional Coast Guard Headquarters stated, "We will strengthen safety patrols in hazardous areas and do our utmost to prevent maritime accidents through preemptive inspections, in order to protect the precious lives and property of the public."
