This year marks the 8th edition of the festival, hosted by the Hajeon Fishing Village Association. Compared to last year, a variety of new programs have been added to provide visitors with an even richer experience.
The festival will feature popular activities such as clam digging, mudflat experiences, free clam giveaways, and catching Pungcheon eel, as well as a range of new content being introduced for the first time this year.
The county is launching a new "Clam Dish Launching Show" and a short-form video contest at this year's festival. The "Clam Dish Launching Show" will bring together culinary experts, culinary students, and tourists, offering a unique opportunity to witness the creation of new clam dishes through the combination of professional know-how and creative ideas from the public.
To encourage participation from the MZ generation, a "Clam Short-form Contest" will also be held. Participants will create creative short videos centered on clams, and the creator whose video achieves the highest number of views will receive a cash prize, generating high expectations and interest.
This year, a variety of goods featuring the official Gochang clam character "Gobarak" will be on sale. Items such as acrylic keyrings, T-shirts, and ready bags are expected to add to the fun of the festival. In addition, a dress code of "Gobarak T-shirt and jeans" will be in place during the festival period to enhance a sense of unity among participants and create special memories.
The mudflat parade has been upgraded this year to provide visitors with an even more unique experience. Instead of simply driving a tractor as in previous years, participants will now ride the tractor and then watch a busking performance in the middle of the mudflat, offering a completely new program.
Kwon Youngjoo, head of the Hajeon Fishing Village Association, said, "May is the golden season when clams are at their peak in both nutrition and flavor. I hope you will make Family Month special by experiencing the true taste of Hajeon clams, a source of pride for Gochang, at this year’s even more diverse and abundant 8th Hajeon Clam Festival."
