During this meeting, the city began to further specify the development plan based on citizens' feedback, and was able to confirm the high level of interest and willingness to participate among the citizens.
The Chudong Forest Garden development project is structured to connect three symbolic spaces, twelve gardens, and five themed forests with a forest trail, and will be implemented in stages through 2030. Together with the city, forty-one members of the citizen participation group will be broadly involved through the end of the year, from setting the direction of the project to participating in planting activities.
This meeting proceeded in the following order: an overall explanation of the park development plan, a Q&A session, and a design meeting. The participation group listened to explanations about the forest trail maintenance and themed garden development plans, exchanged a variety of opinions, and some of these opinions will be reflected in the actual plan.
Going forward, the citizen participation group will continue to take part in the development planning through monthly regular meetings, and will also be involved in practical creation tasks such as overall management of the Chudong Forest Garden and planting of herbaceous plants in the themed gardens.
An official from Uijeongbu City stated, "We plan to develop Chudong Forest Garden not just as a green space, but as a 'participatory forest garden' directly created and nurtured by citizens, accelerating our efforts to realize a 'garden city where people want to walk and stay.'"
