Hongseong County in South Chungcheong Province announced on April 22 that it has been selected for the "2025 Regional Bicycle Travel Activation Project" competition organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and will work to expand its bicycle infrastructure.
The county plans to establish the Cheonsuman Bicycle Path, a round-trip route of 20 kilometers from Gungri Port to Suryong-dong in the Gungri area of Seobu-myeon, which is a representative tourist course in Hongseong. In addition, the county will implement a variety of bicycle travel programs.
To this end, the county will introduce experiential content such as installing bicycle-sharing terminals, purchasing shared bicycles, setting up stamp certification boxes at major hubs, and operating bicycle activation tours. Through these efforts, Hongseong aims to lead new travel trends centered on bicycles.
With the selection for this project, the county has secured 67 million won in national funding and plans to invest a total of 134 million won to carry out the planned initiatives.
The Cheonsuman Bicycle Path is drawing attention as a safe and pleasant riding course for people of all ages, as it is connected to major local tourist attractions such as the Hongseong Sky Tower, Namdang Port Marine Fountain Park, Namdang Sunset Observatory, and Nolgungri Marine Park.
Previously, in the past year, the Cheonsuman Bicycle Path was selected as one of the "Top 60 Free Bicycle Travel Courses" by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, demonstrating its competitiveness as a bicycle travel destination. Hongseong County also hosted the "Hongseong Bicycle Tour" for bicycle enthusiasts from across the country.
An official from the county stated, "We will continue to organically link bicycle travel infrastructure with local tourism resources to develop sustainable tourism content."
