On April 22, Skonec Entertainment, a company specializing in XR content, announced that expectations for improved performance are rising, driven by the upcoming release of its new mixed reality (MR) game, "Traveler," scheduled for the second half of the year.
Skonec is preparing to launch "Traveler," a strategic title targeting the global XR market, in the second half of this year. "Traveler" is an MR game set to be released on Meta's (formerly Facebook) VR platform, Meta Quest. The game is developed based on dynamic gameplay and narrative structures that seamlessly blend real and virtual spaces.
This game features real-time spatial recognition-based combat, story-driven missions, and a high-precision interactive UI. It is generating anticipation as a strategic content offering that can attract not only existing VR users but also new user segments. In particular, the advanced user-customized AI interaction implemented within the game is regarded as a culmination of Skonec's technological expertise and know-how.
Currently, Skonec supplies a variety of content to major global XR platforms such as Meta Quest, SteamVR, and Apple Vision Pro. With the upcoming launch of "Traveler," the company plans to accelerate its overseas market expansion and diversify its revenue streams.
Additionally, Skonec has decided to acquire tangible assets worth 8.207 billion KRW as a foundation for generating rental income through real estate investment and for building and operating metaverse experience centers. This amount accounts for 42.01% of the company's total assets, with the acquisition date set for December 31. The acquired assets are expected to serve as hubs for various XR convergence platforms, including large-scale XR experience zones, immersive entertainment spaces, and content testbeds.
A Skonec representative stated, "This acquisition of tangible assets is a strategic decision aimed at building a mid- to long-term XR convergence platform ecosystem, rather than a short-term investment. By securing offline hubs connected to our XR content such as 'Traveler,' we will fully launch our immersive experience space business."
Since its establishment in 2002, Skonec Entertainment has been a leading immersive content company in South Korea, specializing in the development of XR (extended reality), VR (virtual reality), and AR (augmented reality) content and solutions. The company commercialized the world's first VR arcade game, "Mortal Blitz," leading the domestic XR market, and has since expanded its technology into diverse fields such as gaming, education, defense, and industrial training.
