Jin Sungjun: "Impeachment of Han Ducksoo Should Proceed Immediately... Preoccupied With Considering His Own Candidacy"

Jin Sungjun Urges Immediate Impeachment of Acting President Han Ducksoo at Democratic Party Strategy Meeting on the 22nd

Jin Sungjun, chairman of the Policy Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea, has publicly proposed that Han Ducksoo, acting president and prime minister, should be suspended from his duties.

At a Democratic Party strategy meeting held at the National Assembly in Yeouido on the 22nd, Jin stated, "Let us immediately proceed with the impeachment of Acting President Han."

Jin criticized, "Acting President Han has neglected his duty and responsibility to manage state affairs and the election stably in place of the dismissed president," and added, "The person who should be the highest authority in managing the presidential election, which is only 42 days away, in a neutral and fair manner, is instead preoccupied with considering his own candidacy."

He pointed out, "Despite the Constitutional Court's ruling that an acting president is not the same as a president directly elected by the people, Han claims there is no difference and is abusing his powers without limit, including the right of veto," and added, "Even in tariff negotiations, which involve enormous national interests, he is taking a submissive stance and attempting to sell out the national interest."

He continued, "The behavior of Acting President Han is no different from that of a monarch who reigns above the Constitution," and asserted, "His unconstitutional and illegal acts are countless."

Jin stated, "Acting President Han violated the Constitution by not appointing a Constitutional Court justice elected by the National Assembly, and in addition, he is clearly violating the law by not carrying out the procedures for appointing a permanent special prosecutor."

He emphasized, "There is no reason to hesitate," and added, "If we miss the timing for various reasons, we may face an irreversible situation, so the party and the National Assembly must make a decision."
