Woowa Brothers, the operator of Baemin, announced on April 22 that the company reduced approximately 20,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions last year through its "No Disposable Spoons and Forks" feature.

The "No Disposable Spoons and Forks" feature, which allows customers to choose whether to receive disposable utensils when ordering via the Baemin application (app), was introduced in April 2019. In 2021, Baemin set this feature as the default option, so that disposable utensils are only provided if customers specifically request them, thereby increasing its effectiveness.

In 2022, Baemin developed its own methodology for measuring eco-friendly performance, called the "Methodology for Suppressing the Use of Disposable Products." This methodology established criteria and formulas to calculate how much the "No Disposable Spoons and Forks" feature reduces greenhouse gas emissions related to the production and disposal of disposable products. Baemin also received certification for the validity of this methodology from the Carbon Reduction Certification Center of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, thereby enhancing its credibility.

The reduction of 20,000 tons last year was measured according to this methodology. In addition, the cumulative amount of greenhouse gases reduced from 2022 to 2024 reached 69,000 tons. It is estimated that from April 2019 to December 2024, approximately 8.4 billion disposable spoons and forks will have been eliminated.

To mark Earth Day, Baemin is also holding an event for customers who participate in the "No Disposable Spoons and Forks" initiative. Until April 28, Baemin will select 3,000 customers who choose the "No Disposable Spoons and Forks" option when placing an order and provide them with a 5,000-won discount coupon for food delivery orders. Customers can participate by clicking the "Take a Break from Disposable Spoons and Forks" button on the event page within the Baemin app and maintaining the "No Disposable Spoons and Forks" option when ordering during the event period.

Kim Jungeun, head of the Green Management Team at Woowa Brothers, said, "We hope that this event for Earth Day will serve as a reminder of the importance of environmental protection in our daily lives," and added, "We will continue to work together with our customers to create an eco-friendly delivery culture."
