On April 22, Professor Seo Kyungduk of Sungshin Women's University stated on social media that "in episode 6, released on the 15th, a father and son were shown holding the Taegeukgi while touring Dokdo." He explained, "It was labeled as 'Dokdo' in Korean, 'DOKDO' in English, and the Japanese subtitles used the Japanese phonetic transcription 'Dokuto (ドクト)' for Dokdo."
Professor Seo referred to past instances where Netflix labeled "East Sea" as "Sea of Japan" or referred to "kimchi" as the Chinese pickled vegetable "pao cai" (泡菜), and said, "This time, the accurate labeling of Dokdo is something to be welcomed."
He emphasized, "Filming directly on Dokdo and showcasing it to viewers around the world through a global OTT platform is something only we can do."
In particular, Professor Seo stated, "We must respond firmly to Japan's unfounded claims regarding Dokdo, and further strengthen global promotion of Dokdo using cultural content such as variety shows, dramas, and films."
"Daehwanjang Gianjang" is a new-concept guesthouse variety show set at the Gianjang on Ulleungdo, featuring Kian84, BTS member Jin, and actress Ji Yeeun as they interact with guests. From April 7 to 13, "Daehwanjang Gianjang" recorded 2 million views and ranked 6th in the global Top 10 TV shows (non-English category).
