The Sung Sim Dang bread truck is embarking on a nationwide tour to promote Invention Day.
On April 22, the Korean Intellectual Property Office announced that it will launch the "60th Anniversary Invention Day Bread Truck" nationwide tour in collaboration with Sung Sim Dang as an event to raise public awareness about the importance of invention.
Invention Day was established to commemorate the invention of the world's first rain gauge on May 19, 1441, and this year marks its 60th anniversary.
The nationwide bread truck tour was planned by the Korean Intellectual Property Office and Sung Sim Dang to promote the upcoming "60th Anniversary Invention Day Ceremony," which will be held on May 19 at COEX Magok in Seoul.
The tour will take place at several locations: the first stop will be at Seoul Madang in front of the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, at 10 a.m. on April 30; the second stop will be at Dongseong-ro 28 Art Square in Jung-gu, Daegu, at 10 a.m. on May 7; the third stop will be near the back gate of Chonnam National University in Buk-gu, Gwangju, at 10 a.m. on May 13; and the fourth stop will be at Government Complex Daejeon and other locations in Seo-gu, Daejeon, at 8 a.m. on May 14.
Visitors to the tour sites will receive Sung Sim Dang bread along with a brochure containing stories about Invention Day. There will also be on-site events, such as a "participation certification photo" event using a QR code in the brochure, as well as quizzes and prize draws.
The Korean Intellectual Property Office plans to share stories about intellectual property related to Sung Sim Dang bread with citizens at the event sites. Sung Sim Dang has registered and protected the manufacturing techniques and brands of its popular products, such as fried Soboro bread and Buchu bread, as intellectual property.
This demonstrates that intellectual property can be widely utilized not only in cutting-edge technology fields such as artificial intelligence (AI) and semiconductors, but also in areas closely related to everyday life, such as bread.
Jung Dae Soon, spokesperson for the Korean Intellectual Property Office, stated, "We planned the nationwide bread truck tour to share with the public how creative ideas in everyday life, like those of Sung Sim Dang, can lead to 'premium patents.' We hope that the bread truck tour will serve as an opportunity to widely promote the importance and value of intellectual property to the public."
