On April 22, convenience store chain Seven Eleven announced that it will collaborate with Lotte Mart and Lotte Super to strengthen its competitiveness in fresh food products.

This move comes as the number of one- to two-person households increases, making convenience stores a primary grocery shopping channel and leading to a rise in so-called 'Pyeonjangjok' (people who do their grocery shopping at convenience stores). In fact, sales of fresh vegetables at Seven Eleven this year have increased by 25% compared to the same period last year.

Seven Eleven plans to expand its fresh food category selection and enhance quality competitiveness by utilizing the infrastructure of its affiliates. Starting from the 23rd, the company will sequentially introduce 17 types of products, including various vegetables, fruits, and meats, in cooperation with Lotte Mart and Lotte Super.

Seven Eleven will offer a variety of products verified through Lotte Mart's fresh food quality improvement project, 'Shinseoneul Saeropge' (Renewing Freshness), mainly in small packages tailored to the characteristics of convenience store customers. The unit price has been reduced by about 5% to 10% compared to existing fresh food items.

The 'Shinseoneul Saeropge' products are selected and packaged directly by the Lotte Fresh Quality Innovation Center. The first 'Shinseoneul Saeropge' products to be launched at Seven Eleven include nine types of vegetables frequently used in home-cooked meals, such as 'Hankkibapsang Yangpa 400g' (400g of onions for a single meal), 'Cutting Mu 1/2 Tong' (half a radish, cut), 'Gamja 500g' (500g of potatoes), 'Dadagi Oi 2ip' (two Dadagi cucumbers), 'Peeled Onion 300g', 'Peeled Carrot 150g', and 'Peeled Garlic 60g'.

On April 30, the company also plans to introduce six types of fruits, including 'Kara Kara Orange', 'Busa Apple 4-6 pieces', and 'American Lemon 2 pieces', as well as meat products such as 'Hanip Samgyeopsal 500g' (bite-sized pork belly, 500g) and 'Daepae Samgyeopsal 500g' (thinly sliced pork belly, 500g), which are prepared for easy consumption. In particular, pork belly is expected to see high demand as it is convenient for use in various dishes such as grilling, stews, and stir-fries.

Park Daeseong, head of Seven Eleven's convenience food team, said, "Through this newly launched project utilizing affiliate infrastructure, we can offer even better products, which is expected to increase customer satisfaction. Moving forward, we will continue to strive to provide products that combine reasonable prices with excellent quality so that convenience stores can meet the diverse needs of customers as the closest shopping channel."
