Plastic Usage Reduced by 10%
Enhanced Cushioning and Cooling Effects
Dongwon F&B announced that it will receive the Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Award for its eco-friendly packaging material, 'Microfoam Film,' at the 19th Korea Packaging Exhibition held on the 22nd at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.
Dongwon F&B's Microfoam Film is an eco-friendly material that forms uniform micro-bubbles by injecting nitrogen into plastic film, which is a key raw material for flexible packaging. This enhances cushioning and cooling effects, and by making the plastic material lighter, it can reduce annual plastic usage by an average of more than 10%. Dongwon F&B has applied Microfoam Film to four types of dim sum products and plans to expand its use to a wider range of frozen foods, including dumplings.

Microfoam Film was developed as part of the 'Less Plastic' campaign aimed at reducing plastic usage. Dongwon F&B has been working to reduce plastic in various food packaging materials, including holiday gift sets, Dongwon Saemmul bottled water, and fermented dairy products. As a result, the company reduced its plastic usage by approximately 1,400 tons last year.
A Dongwon F&B representative stated, "We are actively introducing eco-friendly packaging materials to fulfill our corporate social responsibility throughout the entire process from product research and development to production and distribution," adding, "We will continue to lead the spread of sustainable food packaging materials based on differentiated technology."
Meanwhile, the Korea Packaging Exhibition, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and organized by the Packaging Technology Center of the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, is an event that recognizes products and designs that have contributed to packaging technology development and the advancement of the packaging industry. Last year, Dongwon F&B received the President's Award from the Korea Packaging Technology Society at the same event for a gift set that used boxes made from recycled aseptic packs and containers made from 'Cr-PP (Chemical Recycled PP)'.
