Gyeonggi Office of Education to Support Basic Academic Ability Assessment for Multicultural Students

The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education will support multilingual basic academic ability assessments for multicultural students through its artificial intelligence (AI)-based online learning platform, Hi-Learning.

The multilingual basic academic ability assessment is an effective tool for distinguishing between basic academic underachievement caused by language barriers and actual basic academic underachievement.

Previously, the provincial office developed a multilingual basic academic ability assessment in cooperation with Gwansan Middle School and the Seoul National University Multicultural Education Research Center, offering the assessment in multicultural languages: Chinese, Russian, and Vietnamese.

This multilingual support assessment system will be piloted in the first semester of the 2025 academic year. The office plans to gradually expand the range of supported languages by reflecting students' academic achievement and feedback from schools.

An official from the provincial office stated, "Providing mother tongue support for the Hi-Learning basic academic ability assessment is an important first step in practically guaranteeing learning opportunities for multicultural students," adding, "We will continue to create an educational environment where everyone can expand their learning without discrimination."
