This visit stems from an agreement signed in April of last year with Kazakhstan's Ministry of Science and Higher Education, which led to the placement of outstanding local talent as native-speaking assistant teachers in Gyeonggi schools for bilingual education.
In particular, this visit is significant as it opens a new horizon for educational cooperation diplomacy, not only through teacher exchanges but also by sharing the excellence of Gyeonggi education, expanding multicultural education internationally, and building an educational ecosystem for the growth of future generations.
The Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education plans to cooperate with the Ministry of Education of Kazakhstan to provide online-based Korean language education to local students through the "third sector" Gyeonggi Korean Language School (KLS, Korean Language Sharing School).
In addition, a tripartite agreement will be signed with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and Eurasian National University to operate a global overseas internship program for multicultural students. The global overseas internship is designed to nurture multicultural high school students as global talent who can serve as bridges between the two countries by linking university lectures with corporate internships.
Superintendent Lim Taehee will also visit public education sites in Kazakhstan. Astana Gymnasium No. 31, which he will visit, is expected to participate in exchange classes and project-based learning with schools in Gyeonggi that have a high concentration of multicultural students.
In particular, by visiting multicultural education sites where various ethnic groups coexist, he will explore the direction and potential for expanding multicultural education in Gyeonggi. In addition, through meetings with the Association of Koryoin, he will share the current status of educational support for children of Koryoin residents in Gyeonggi and provide support for Korean language education.
This visit includes stops at the Association of Koryoin, the Almaty Korean Education Center, the Ministry of Education of Kazakhstan, Abai Pedagogical University, Astana Gymnasium No. 31, and Eurasian National University, as well as the signing of a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and Eurasian National University.
Superintendent Lim Taehee emphasized that this visit is "a process of proposing Gyeonggi's multicultural education policies, which reflect the voices of the educational field, and the achievements of the Gyeonggi Korean Language School to the public education systems of other countries," adding, "We will continue to promote field-oriented international exchanges to directly showcase the excellence of Gyeonggi education."
Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education is expanding its international education cooperation system through the 2024 UNESCO International Forum on the Future of Education and agreements with North American education offices. This educational exchange with Kazakhstan marks a meaningful step in extending the scope of cooperation to Central Asia.
