Bishop Kwon Hyukju expresses desire to extend warmth to wildfire victims
The Catholic Diocese of Andong has donated 100 million won in relief funds to Uiseong County to assist residents affected by the large-scale wildfire.
The Catholic Diocese of Andong has donated a total of 500 million won to five affected areas in the northern part of Gyeongbuk. Bishop Kwon Hyukju expressed his compassion for the disaster victims and delivered wildfire relief funds to Uiseong County.
On the 18th, Uiseong County announced that Bishop Kwon Hyukju John Chrysostom, the head of the Catholic Diocese of Andong, personally visited the county office to deliver the donation.
Bishop Kwon extended his compassion, expressing hope for the swift return to daily life for residents who lost their homes due to the wildfire.
The Diocese of Andong has been raising funds to support the stabilization of daily life and recovery efforts for residents in wildfire-affected areas. Out of the ten cities and counties in northern Gyeongbuk under its jurisdiction, the diocese donated 100 million won to each of the five affected regions?Uiseong County, Andong City, Cheongsong County, Yeongyang County, and Yeongdeok County?for a total of 500 million won.
The Catholic Diocese of Andong was established on May 29, 1969, when it was separated from the Daegu Diocese by Pope Paul VI. The first bishop was Father Dubong (Renato), who passed away on April 10.
The current bishop, Kwon Hyukju, was born in Uiseong. He graduated from Gwangju Catholic University in 1978, was ordained as a priest in 1983, served as both assistant and chief priest, and was appointed as bishop in 2001. He continues to lead the Diocese of Andong to this day.
Kim Jusu, the governor of Uiseong County, said, "I would like to express my deep gratitude to Bishop Kwon Hyukju and all members of the diocese for their warm support for residents going through difficult times due to the wildfire. The donated funds will be used with care to help stabilize the lives of affected residents and support recovery efforts."
