Jeonnam Province is continuing sustained and strategic efforts to ensure that its key regional issues are reflected in presidential election pledges ahead of the early presidential election.
On April 21, Yoon Jin-ho, Director of Planning and Coordination at Jeonnam Province, visited the National Assembly and met sequentially with Heo Min, a professor at Chonnam National University and co-chair of "Growth and Integration," the policy think tank for Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jaemyung, as well as Andogul An, a National Assembly member known to be in charge of Democratic Party policy for the Honam region. He explained the proposed election pledges for the Jeonnam region to both individuals.
Professor Heo Min oversees key policy divisions such as balanced regional development and climate crisis response within "Growth and Integration." In particular, he plays a central role in shaping Lee Jaemyung's vision for national governance and in designing his policy pledges. Assemblyman Andogul An, a former Second Vice Minister and Budget Director at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, is a National Assembly member with strong connections to regional budgets and policy initiatives.
Jeonnam Province presented a total of 76 policy proposals for the region's future development. In particular, it focused on 20 key initiatives, including the establishment of a medical school in Jeonnam, which currently lacks one; a mega project for the major transformation of the petrochemical and steel industries; and the creation of the Solaseado AI Supercluster Hub.
Additionally, the province requested the inclusion of 36 additional region-specific development projects by sector, such as the construction of a southern region ultra-wide aviation infrastructure linked to future air mobility, and 20 proposals for institutional improvements and national policy suggestions, including the introduction of a national basic childbirth allowance.
Jeonnam Province is further expanding its outreach to ensure the inclusion of its proposals in presidential election pledges. The province visits the National Assembly every week to hold policy meetings with National Assembly members from or representing the Jeonnam region. It also carries out tailored pledge proposal activities for each party, working through the Jeonnam branches and the policy committees of the five parliamentary parties: the Democratic Party, the People Power Party, the Cho Kuk Innovation Party, the Reform New Party, and the Progressive Party.
Director Yoon Jin-ho stated, "This early presidential election is a crucial opportunity for Jeonnam to emerge as a central pillar of national balanced development," adding, "Jeonnam Province will continue to strengthen its connections with each party, candidate, and National Assembly member to ensure that the foundation for Jeonnam's future growth is linked to national policy."
