Creating Urban Green Spaces Together
Through Resident Participation and Donations
On April 21, Gangnam-gu (Mayor Cho Sungmyung) signed a business agreement with Green Umbrella (Chairman Hwang Younggi) at the district office meeting room for the 'Our Neighborhood Green Donation Challenge,' officially launching an urban greening project centered on private sector participation.

This agreement introduces a new paradigm for creating green spaces in urban areas, such as parks, urban forests, rivers, forests, and street greenery. Unlike the previous government-led approach to establishing parks and green spaces, the new model emphasizes voluntary participation and donations from residents, businesses, and private organizations.
The 'Our Neighborhood Green Donation Challenge' is an open donation campaign in which anyone can participate. It is characterized by residents directly taking part in the creation and maintenance of local parks, based on support from individuals, companies, and organizations. Donors can contribute to park creation in a variety of ways, including commemorative tree planting and honorary benches.
With this agreement, the district aims to establish a sustainable, privately-led urban forest model and to promote a culture of donation and social contribution through green governance built together by the public and private sectors.
Mayor Cho Sungmyung stated, "This agreement aligns with Gangnam-gu's ESG administrative vision and marks a very meaningful beginning for creating urban green spaces together with residents," adding, "We will continue to discover a variety of green donation challenges in which residents, businesses, and private organizations can empathize and participate together."
