The Chonnam National University Fisheries Disease Control Center, part of the Department of Fisheries Life Medicine, was recently designated as a "non-clinical testing institution," establishing itself as the only institution in the country authorized to conduct both clinical and non-clinical trials.
According to Chonnam National University on April 21, with this new designation as a "non-clinical testing institution," the Fisheries Disease Control Center now has comprehensive testing capabilities. It can conduct not only clinical trials?such as pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacology, clinical efficacy, and adverse reaction assessments?but also non-clinical tests, including evaluations of bioequivalence, antimicrobial efficacy, residue, and target animal safety.
Established in 2009, the Fisheries Disease Control Center has positioned itself as a specialized research institution under the National Fisheries Disease Control Act, based on its accumulated expertise and research capabilities in the diagnosis and study of aquatic animal diseases, food safety, and clinical and basic medicine. In 2023, it was designated as an "institution authorized to conduct clinical trials for aquatic and veterinary pharmaceuticals."
Director Kim Wisik (professor, Department of Fisheries Life Medicine) stated, "With this designation as an institution for both clinical and non-clinical trials, Chonnam National University can further strengthen its leading role in the research of aquatic animal pharmaceuticals," adding, "We will do our utmost to grow into a trusted, high-quality testing institution in the domestic fisheries sector."
