Expectations for Building a Fandom After Reaching No. 1 in English-Speaking Regions

Suseong Webtoon’s artificial intelligence (AI)-based webtoons are gaining popularity in overseas markets. Following their success in the Greater China region, they are now showing signs of box office success in English-speaking markets as well.

On April 21, Suseong Webtoon announced that its fantasy webtoon incorporating AI technology, "Draco-Knight Commander," has maintained a spot in the top 10 in English-speaking regions since reaching the number one position on the global webtoon platform Toomics Global. The company added that its content is gaining traction in overseas markets where there is a high level of acceptance for AI-based content.

AI-based webtoon production technology is also advancing rapidly. Yoo Younghak, CEO of Suseong Webtoon, stated, "As webtoon production using AI becomes more widespread, both production convenience and productivity are improving simultaneously. These environmental changes are directly leading to platform expansion and content diversification, which will ultimately place webtoons at the peak of AI-driven benefits."

Suseong Webtoon's "Someone Stop Her!"?introduced in North America and Europe?has achieved the number one spot in its category in English-speaking regions, successfully building a local fan base. A Suseong Webtoon representative explained, "This webtoon was localized to suit the tastes of overseas fans. While it received a relatively lukewarm response domestically, it has garnered explosive enthusiasm in overseas markets."

Suseong Webtoon plans to accelerate the strengthening of its webtoon value chain. This year, the company will integrate major subsidiaries?including Toomics, Toomics Global, and content production company Terrapin?as wholly owned subsidiaries through a comprehensive merger. Suseong Webtoon aims to internalize the entire process from webtoon planning and production to distribution.

Suseong Webtoon has also recently secured momentum for improved business performance. The company forecasts an operating profit of 17.8 billion won on a consolidated basis this year. Quarterly operating profit is likely to exceed 4 billion won. The company explained that this is the result of the organic interplay between AI utilization, overseas platform growth, and value chain enhancement.
