The current status of American YouTuber Johnny Somali, who was banned from leaving South Korea after filming content that insulted Korea?including actions such as kissing the Statue of Peace?has been revealed.
Recently, the YouTuber 'Legal Mindset,' who has been reporting on Somali's trial proceedings, shared a Telegram message sent by an acquaintance of Somali through his X (formerly Twitter) account and YouTube channel.
The message included a request for support, sharing a PayPal donation account. Somali's acquaintance stated, "The legal fees are overwhelming. If anyone can help with the legal expenses, please consider donating," and added, "Johnny is under a travel ban, and in Korea, he is not allowed to work or receive any support."
The acquaintance continued, "Johnny currently has no money, so I am supporting him out of necessity. If I don't help, he would starve to death."
Previously, in October of last year, Somali was indicted on charges of disrupting employees at a convenience store in downtown Seoul by playing loud music and deliberately spilling instant noodle soup on the table. In addition, he was involved in other incidents, such as kissing the Statue of Peace, repeatedly engaging in acts of racial discrimination and sexual harassment against Korean citizens, and was also assaulted by some YouTubers.
