Rebuilding Korea Party Files Complaint Against Yoon for Election Law Violation... "Three Months and 15 Days Left on Statute of Limitations"

Press Conference Held at National Investigation Headquarters
"Investigation Must Proceed Swiftly"

On April 21, the Rebuilding Korea Party filed a criminal complaint against former President Yoon Suk-yeol for violating the Public Official Election Act. The party accused him of making false statements regarding the stock price manipulation case involving Kim Keon-hee and the forged bank balance certificate case involving his mother-in-law, Choi Eun-soon. The party urged a swift investigation, noting that the statute of limitations is nearing its end due to Yoon's presidential election and subsequent events.

The party's parliamentary members held a press conference in front of the National Investigation Headquarters that day, stating, "The Rebuilding Korea Party is filing a complaint with the National Investigation Headquarters against Yoon Suk-yeol for the crime of disseminating false information under the Public Official Election Act."

They claimed, "During the 2022 presidential election, Yoon (then a candidate) stated in TV debates and press conferences that 'my wife only suffered losses from stock investments and simply walked away.' The campaign's legal team also posted on Facebook that 'she incurred an estimated loss of about 4,000 won.' Regarding his mother-in-law, Choi Eun-soon, he said, 'Although my mother-in-law has been scammed before, she has never caused even a 10-won loss to anyone,' and 'my mother-in-law was actually scammed out of about 5 billion won.' All of these statements are outright lies," they insisted. They added, "The prosecution's investigation confirmed that Kim Keon-hee and Choi Eun-soon made nearly 2.3 billion won in profits from trading Deutsche Motors shares."

Additionally, the party reported Yoon for making allegedly false statements during a Kwanhun Club forum, such as 'I never introduced a lawyer to former Yongsan Tax Office chief Yoon Woo-jin,' and 'The illegal loans related to Daejang-dong in the Busan Savings Bank investigation were neither a subject of investigation nor were there any leads.'

The party's lawmakers stated, "Although complaints regarding these matters have been filed, Yoon Suk-yeol has evaded investigation by hiding behind the presidential immunity privilege." They continued, "Now that Yoon Suk-yeol has been removed from office, his privileges have ended, and he can no longer hide behind the shield of power." They further emphasized, "The entire nation will be watching the National Investigation Headquarters. Prove your worth by enforcing the law strictly and without exception."

Regarding the statute of limitations, the party members explained, "The statute of limitations for the crime of disseminating false information under the Public Official Election Act is six months after the election day. The period began on March 9, 2022, when the presidential election ended, but was suspended upon Yoon's inauguration on May 10, 2022. With his removal from office on April 4, 2025, the statute of limitations resumed, leaving about three months and fifteen days remaining."

They concluded, "With little time left before the statute of limitations expires, we strongly urge the National Investigation Headquarters to investigate this case as quickly as possible and proceed with prosecution."
