Shinan County Hosts "Artthon" Event to Revitalize Local Arts

Inviting Artists: Connecting Region and Art Through "Workation"

Shinan County in South Jeolla Province was selected for the workation revitalization project promoted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism last year, and invited artists to host the "Artthon (Art + Marathon) event," connecting the region and the arts through workation.

According to the county on the 21st, "Artthon" is a creative project that combines the structure of artistic creation and a hackathon. It is an intensive creative marathon in which teams generate and execute ideas within a limited time frame.

The event was held at Ssangryong Branch School in Aphae-eup over a two-day, one-night schedule from April 18 to 19, with a total of 22 participants. After conducting team-based field explorations, participants used the nature and stories of Aphaedo as artistic themes, interpreting and expressing them through their own perspectives. The event served as both an experimental workshop and an art festival.

One participant said, "Although it was a short, two-day, one-night event, I enjoyed being able to share artistic sensibilities with people from various fields in the unique setting of Aphaedo."

Kim Daein, acting county governor, emphasized, "Shinan, with its diverse cultures on each island, offers a more distinctive workation experience than any other region." He added, "We will continue to discover and promote a variety of workation opportunities that many people can enjoy on the islands."
