"Tianjin 117 Tower Resumes Construction After Many Setbacks"
"The Tallest Building in Northern China"
A 117-story building is set to be constructed in Tianjin, China. The building is scheduled for completion on April 30, 2027.
China National Radio reported on the 21st that "Tianjin 117 Tower is scheduled to resume construction starting from the 30th." According to the report, construction of the building began in September 2008 and was structurally completed in September 2015. However, due to various complications such as construction halts, resumptions, and equity transfers, the building remained an "unfinished structure" for 10 years.
According to information recently released on the National Construction Market Supervision and Management Public Service Platform, Tianjin 117 Tower has officially obtained a "construction project construction permit."
As its name suggests, the 117-story building will stand at 416.91 meters, surpassing the 415.2-meter height of the Tianjin TV Broadcasting Tower.
China National Radio also reported that "upon completion, Tianjin 117 Tower will reach 596.5 meters, making it the tallest building currently under construction in China." The report noted that "in particular, the 115th floor at 564 meters above ground will house a luxury swimming pool, which is expected to become the highest indoor swimming pool in the world."
The report added, "The 116th floor, at 579 meters, will feature the world's highest observation deck," and explained that "this will break the record for the world's highest observation deck, previously set at 474 meters by the Shanghai World Financial Center in 2009." The investment in this building is estimated at between 62.3 billion and 69.2 billion yuan (approximately 12.13 trillion to 13.48 trillion won).
Meanwhile, the tallest building in the world is the Burj Khalifa (163 stories, 828 meters high) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The second tallest is the Merdeka 118 building, located in downtown Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, at 679 meters. The Shanghai Tower in China ranks third at 632 meters.
