"Potato chips made from fresh potatoes, Nongshim Cleopatra~"

The iconic potato chip commercial featuring the late national comedian Lee Juil from the 1980s has returned after more than 40 years. To mark its 60th anniversary, Nongshim has restored and released the old commercial video for its snack brand 'Cleopatra' on April 21.

The original commercial, which aired in 1983, shows Lee Juil playing the harp while introducing the potato chips. Through this advertisement, Nongshim aims to evoke nostalgia among those who remember comedian Lee Juil and spark curiosity among younger generations, thereby strengthening the Cleopatra brand image across all age groups.

'Cleopatra' is a fresh potato snack launched in 1980, and it drew attention for its unique product name inspired by the Egyptian queen. The initial advertisements also gained popularity thanks to Lee Juil's wit and the bold concept. Even today, 'Cleopatra' is used as the name of a social game among some younger people.

In February, Nongshim launched 'Cleopatra Salt & Olive' as part of its efforts to revitalize the brand. The company maintained its commitment to using fresh potatoes while enhancing the premium appeal by adding the flavor of olive oil. A Nongshim representative stated, "Cleopatra is establishing itself as a brand that transcends generations," adding, "We will continue to connect with consumers through retro sensibilities and new flavors."

In addition to 'Cleopatra,' Nongshim has been re-releasing other popular products from the past. A representative example is 'Nongshim Ramen.' Since its launch, it has sold out at major supermarkets, and cumulative sales surpassed 10 million packs within three months. The snack 'B29' is also spreading quickly among consumers who have long awaited its return.
