Hamyang County Holds Tasting Event for Newly Developed Handeul Commercial District Food Menus

Two Main Dishes and Two Desserts Introduced
Revitalizing the Local Commercial District with Regional Specialties

Hamyang County in South Gyeongsang Province announced on April 21 that it held a tasting event for four newly developed menu items at the Handeul Hub Center in Yongpyeong-ri, Hamyang-eup.

This tasting event was organized as part of a project to revitalize the local commercial district. The menus were developed by the Hamyang Handeul Autonomous Commercial District Cooperative through food consulting, with the aim of boosting the local economy by promoting consumption of regional specialties and attracting tourists.

The four menu items introduced included both main dishes and desserts. They featured local specialties such as black pork and Garaetteok made from Hamyang rice, as well as Hamyang green onions (Kalsot), which are known for being grilled. The dishes included "Lotteok Pateok," made with black pork, Garaetteok, and grilled green onions; "Yangpa Bap," a combination of black pork Tteokgalbi and onion fries; and for dessert, the "Gotgam Pork Wrap," a seasoned pork sandwich with Hamyang dried persimmon wrapped in a tortilla, and "Ssanghwa Gam Malengi Ice Cream."

The evaluation was conducted in two sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, with around 60 participants including Hamyang County Governor Jin Byungyoung and Hamyang County Council Chairman Kim Yuntaek, who shared their feedback.

Participants evaluated the menus based on a variety of factors such as taste, visual appeal, marketability, popularity, and preferred price ranges for both consumers and sellers. In addition to sharing opinions on the dishes, they also discussed areas for improvement and future development directions.

The menu items were highly praised for being developed by Chef Song Haslam, who appeared on "Black and White Chef," and Chef Kim Hyejun, known as "Bbangyo Jeong," both of whom participated directly in the process and made full use of Hamyang's local specialties.

Governor Jin Byungyoung stated, "I hope that these newly developed menu items will not end as a simple tasting event, but will become signature dishes of Hamyang through recipe training sessions for local merchants."
