Affordable Rates Reduce Parking Burden
Mapo District (District Mayor Park Kangsoo) has established the Mapo World Cup Public Parking Lot (Sangam-dong 1624~1626) to address the severe parking shortage in the area.
The area around DMC Station in Sangam-dong is densely packed with commercial facilities and large apartment complexes. The vicinity of Seoul World Cup Stadium, which is nearby, has long suffered from a lack of parking spaces during various games and events, leading to widespread illegal parking and disruption of traffic flow. These issues have been repeatedly raised.
In response, Mapo District signed an agreement with Lotte Shopping to temporarily operate a public parking lot on the site of the planned Lotte Mall development.
The completed Mapo World Cup Public Parking Lot offers a total of 534 spaces: 371 for hourly parking, 110 for resident-priority parking, and 53 for large vehicles. In particular, the dedicated spaces for large vehicles are expected to help resolve parking difficulties faced by local village bus operators.
The parking fees are 200 won per 5 minutes for hourly parking, 50,000 won per month for resident-priority parking, and 400 won per 5 minutes for large vehicle parking.
The Mapo World Cup Public Parking Lot will undergo a trial operation from May 8 to May 27, and will officially open on May 28.
This is expected to resolve the ongoing parking shortage in both Sangam-dong and Seongsan 2-dong. Park Kangsoo, Mayor of Mapo District, stated, "The establishment of the Mapo World Cup Public Parking Lot is the result of cooperation between Mapo District and Lotte Shopping to address the parking shortage," adding, "It will contribute to improving local traffic conditions."
