Side-Job Returning Farmers Also Eligible to Apply
Damyang County in South Jeolla Province (Governor Jung Chulwon) announced on April 19 that it is accepting applications on a first-come, first-served basis for its "Farmhouse Renovation Support Program for Returning Farmers" to help newcomers settle stably in rural areas.
The Farmhouse Renovation Support Program for Returning Farmers is designed to help returning farmers enjoy a comfortable rural life by providing financial assistance for remodeling old houses. The support covers home remodeling, roof repairs, and kitchen and bathroom improvements. Each recipient can receive up to 10 million won per household, including 6 million won from the county and 4 million won in self-funding. This year, the program plans to support two households.
Eligible applicants are returning farmers who actually reside in Damyang and have moved in within the past five years. Farmers who have completed registration as agricultural business operators are eligible to apply, even if they are currently employed in another industry. By allowing side jobs for livelihood, the program has relaxed its qualifications so that returning farmers working in industries outside of agriculture can also apply.
An official from the county stated, "This program provides practical support for returning farmers who are preparing to settle in rural areas despite economic difficulties," adding, "We hope that improving the residential environment will lay the foundation for a stable farming life."
