Touching Performances of "When in Busan," "Yeongilman Friend," and "About Romance"
Singer Choi Baekho, known for his profound resonance and lyrical melodies that capture the weight of life, returned to the Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences on April 18 to perform a consolation concert for patients.
Choi Baekho, a native of Jwacheon-ri, Jangan-eup, shares a special emotional bond with the Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences, as he graduated from Ilgwang Elementary School where his mother once taught. Reflecting this connection, he currently serves as an ambassador for the institute.

This concert, held for the second time following its debut in 2023, went beyond a simple performance to deliver heartfelt comfort and hope, leaving a deep impression on patients, caregivers, and hospital staff alike. Through his signature songs such as "About Romance," "When in Busan," and "At the End of the Sea," Choi Baekho, who has long sung of life and romance, fully embodied his philosophy that "music must ultimately be directed toward people" on stage.
The makeshift stage set up in the hospital’s first-floor lobby was modest, but the space was filled with sincerity. Presenting a repertoire of over ten songs, Choi Baekho infused each performance with authenticity, offering encouragement and empathy to cancer patients. Especially when songs like "When in Busan," "Yeongilman Friend," and "About Romance" resonated through the hall, the audience sang along as one, and some patients were moved to tears.
This concert was a significant source of comfort to patients undergoing difficult chemotherapy and those recovering from cancer surgeries, with many expressing their gratitude after the performance.
Held entirely as a talent donation without any performance fee, the event was supported by local companies Hyundai RB and Sungwoo Hitech, who provided baked goods and beverages for the patients.
Notably, the concert was part of the "Wings of Hope" program, a social contribution initiative by the Korea Nuclear Foundation, highlighting the warmth and solidarity of the local community and society.
Lee Changhun, director of the institute, remarked, "The music of Choi Baekho, who has sung of romance and life for many years, is a gift to hospitalized patients, staff, and all visitors to the hospital. Above all, it was a time for everyone to share in the healing power of music."
